Understanding Sexuality as Part of Life for Every Woman



                                                                



Sexuality in women includes a wide range of behaviors and processes; these include sexual behavior, aspects of sex and sexual identity. The various aspects of female sexuality have been addressed by ethics, morality, and theology. In almost every historical era and culture a good portion of it is society's views on sexuality, mostly female sexuality.

Sexuality forms a part of every woman's life.  All of your bodies have the ability to feel pleasure and physical excitement. It is not strange to see some women choose not to be sexually active, in the same vein most women prefer to explore their sexual desires in one way or another. A very important part of every woman’s sexual health remains the freedom to choose how to express herself sexually.

Similarly, sexual health also connotes good understanding of how your body functions. Females who understand their bodies can make better choices about the sexual activities that they may be involved in and enjoy such. Women who understand their sexuality can choose when they can be pregnant and when to avoid pregnancy.

Being educated about sexually transmitted diseases can help a female protect themselves and their partners from disease. Good sexual health in women also involves being comfortable with yourself and your sexual desires. It also means having healthy relationships with others. Your understanding of your sexual health means ability to identify when your are physically or verbally abused as well as learning to cope with the after effects of such relationships.

Sexual health is also about the woman identifying and understanding sexual disorders as well. Sexual disorders are conditions that may prevent people from having rich and fulfilling sexual relationships. Some of the sexual disorders involve problems related to sexual desire, functioning, and or performance.

Sexual disorders can be categorized into 3 main parts; they are as follows:

  1. Sexual dysfunctions, Sexual dysfunctions manifest as persistent or recurrent problems that occur during sexual response. 
  2.  Paraphilias, Paraphilias has a lot to do with psychological functioning that involves unusual, distasteful, or abnormal behavior. 
  3. Gender identity disorders. Involve feelings of strong identification with the opposite sex.
Other factors that can precipitate sexual disorders in women include; psychological, emotional, and physical factors.
Some symptoms of sexual disorders include;
·        Lack of interest in or desire for sex,
·        Difficulty becoming aroused and
·        Pain during intercourse.

How to treat sexual dysfunction in females:

There is wide variation in the treatment of sexual disorder in females. The variations in treatment depend on the nature of the suspected sexual disorder; in some cases, a physical problem can be treated with medical procedures.  

Some natural herbal supplements have been found to be a safe alternative to other medications that may have severe unfavorable effects.
Sexual disorders can be prevented from happening in the first place. For example, parents who have communicated openly with their children about sexuality and health concerns and issues related to sexual health, helps prevent the children from developing anxiety and guilt that may lead to sexual disorders.

Open communication between sexual partners therefore, is very helpful in preventing disorders as well. Any woman who has gone through an abusive relationship is likely to develop a disorder and trauma if help and counseling are not provided.

Finally, it is very important to provide help and counseling for women who have been through abusive relationships in the past after such an issue can greatly prevent any sexual disorder from occurring.
